Sept 8th- Sept 11th

This week in projects we will continue finishing up our United States region maps. The maps have turned out awesome and each tribe's map is special and unique! We will finish up our slide show presentations this week to present to the class. Stay tuned for pictures that will be posted of the final projects.

We have been working lots on teamwork and working as a team. If everyone at home can talk about teamwork and what it means to you that would keep all of us on the right track. "Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success". ~Henry Ford

Math- I am looking for someone to help with math facts in the fifth grade! Please email me if you are interested!
3rd grade this week we are starting to take a deeper look into skip counting and multiplication.
4th grade this week we will learn how to round using a vertical number line.
5th grade this week will will start learning about how to write decimal fractions in expanded, unit, and word forms by using place value.

I will start sending home lots of papers! Remember that the work we do in class may not always have a grade on it or finished. I rotate students back to work with me in order for them to get a better understanding of the lesson. This will shorten their work time in class. If they bring home unfinished worksheets this is why! We do lots of whiteboard problems instead of actually writing it onto the worksheet.
If you plan on missing school remember it has to be prearranged with the office. For students that miss math you need to find a time that I can meet with you for tutoring so I can catch you up. I am available before school, lunch or after school please just email me with times! I am always happy to tutor or help anyone in need.

Our first field trip for the 4th grade is this week! On Thursday the 4th and 5th grade will be heading to the 9/11 presentation at City Hall. If anyone has conflicts with this please let me know.

September 2nd-September 4th

I hope everyone had a great holiday. This week is a short 3 day week! In math we will continue to learn about place value, compare numbers and learn how to multiply by 10's, 100's and 1000's. IXL will continue to be sent home as homework. Remember only 15 minutes a night, and to bring a hard copy to school to show their work they did. This week our "Fierce Fourth Grader"s are starting to create their map projects. If students are bringing any supplies from home they need to start bringing those supplies in tomorrow (Tuesday). Class Dojo is up and running! This was our first week of students getting "paid" for their points. They had a chance to shop in "Harry's Treasure Shop" for a  few prizes. Students can either save their money or buy small prizes when the shop is open! As students start to save their money many of you may see our friend Harry come home with your child. Harry is a stuffed animal horse from Montana. He looks over our class everyday and students can either babysit him for a day or babysit him over the weekend. Remember if you child is going to miss school you must call the office and get it arrange before you leave. I cannot send work home with your child before he/she leaves it must be made up upon their return. I am available for tutoring if you would like to set that up just get in contact with me.

Keep Smiling :)

MATH STUDENTS/PARENTS: Homework!

I just wanted to send out a little reminder that when students come home with a worksheet or IXL homework they only need to do their homework for 15 minutes a night! If it takes them longer to do their homework that is fine, but they don't need to finish it.Please only 15 minutes a night of homework unless they want extra practice.  I know there has been some confusion about bringing hard copies of their IXL homework each night. Students will come across problems that they need to use a scratch piece of paper for and show each step they take to get their answers. If they use all mental math during IXL please have them right down five problems and their answers. This way if they are making mistakes I can look at their work and see where their mistakes are being made.

August 25-August 28

Hello Everyone!
One week down! It was a great first week of school. I am so excited to finally have this year rolling. The class dojo is up and running! I know many of the students have been checking their points. Students, go to class dojo student and enter your username and password that we create! If you can't remember them or lost the sheet that I sent home I will give you them again on Monday :)  In the math world, we are still learning about place value, expanded form and standard form for the 3rd and 4th grade. In the 5th grade we are learning different types of multiplication like, lattice multiplication and partial product. Like we discussed on "Back to School Night" students must bring in a hard copy of their IXL homework. This means that any problems that students have to use a scratch piece of paper for needs to be brought to class. This way I can see how they are making their mistakes and keep them on the right path. If they used mental math throughout the entire IXL homework they need to write down five problems with the answers to receive full credit!

If you are going to bring treats for a birthday that is awesome, but just make sure you get in touch with me before you bring them. In our fourth grade class in the afternoons we are starting to dive right into projects! This week we did virtual tours around the United States. We visited Lake Tahoe, The Grand Canyon, New York City, San Francisco and Washington D.C. As my students like to say "We got lost in the White House and didn't even leave our classroom" :) Our first project is about the different regions in the United States. Students will start creating maps of their own in the next few week.! We started to discuss our tribe agreements and played lots of "get to know you games"! Please remember to send your child with a few snacks. 8- 4 is a long day for them and to keep them focused we need snacks throughout the day!
I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Math Parents and Students,
If you are having trouble logging into IXL please get a hold of me via email hpettit@oasisacademyfallon.us. They do need to bring in a hard copy of their homework on a separate sheet of paper. They only need to show the problems that they need to work out! Don't forget tomorrow is Thursday which means Pizza! Send money for coupons if you haven't already!
Thank you,
Miss Pettit

First day was awesome! I sent home with the kids tonight their Class Dojo sheet that we talked about! Here is the link for parents. http://home.classdojo.com/#!/signup Your child has a sheet located in their front pocket of their white binder. It has your code on it.  You just have to click on the link above and enter the code that your child brought home to you! After you sign up you will be getting weekly behavior progress report on your child.  We didn't get much time to chat about Class Dojo today, but it will start tomorrow! If you could sign up this evening or tomorrow and send back the Class Dojo sheet signed by you :) That way I know who will be receiving emails. That is the only homework that the students have for me tonight. We had drama in our class today and we will have it again on Wednesday. Your son or daughter need to bring an item with them on Wednesday! They will remember all about it if you could just remind them. Thank you for being patient with all of the new changes at the school.
See you tomorrow!
