Update on 4th Grade Writing

Students are exploring the world of opinion/persuasive writing, beginning with writing a friendly letter on a topic they are passionate about.  Some of these letters have been addressed to parents - so look for them to come home!   We had quite a variety of topics!   We have explored the importance of understanding different perspectives, as well as determining who our audience will be.  Next week, we'll pick a different topic, explore pros and cons, and write an opinion essay.

Earthquake!

For our last project we studied the impact the Earth's natural processes has on humans.  We researched how engineers build earthquake resistant structures.  We used the engineering method to design and create our own earthquake resistant structures.  The students were constrained to only 10 items and only had one day of projects to build it.  We had fun as our structures experienced an earthquake!
